[Sahih Al-Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 38 Representation, Authorization, Business by Proxy , Number 505]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) deputed me to keep Sadaqat (al-Fitr) of Ramadan. A comer came and started taking handfuls of the foodstuff (of the Sadaqa) (stealthily) . I took hold of him and said, “By Allah, I will take you to Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) .” He said, “I am needy and have many dependents, and I am in great need.” I released him, and in the morning Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) asked me, “What did your prisoner do yesterday?” I said, “O Allah’s Apostle! The person complained of being needy and of having many dependents, so, I pitied him and let him go.” Allah’s Apostle said, “Indeed, he told you a lie and he will be coming again.”
I believed that he would show up again as Allah’s Apostle had told me that he would return. So, I waited for him watchfully. When he (showed up and) started stealing handfuls of foodstuff, I caught hold of him again and said, “I will definitely take you to Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam). He said, “Leave me, for I am very needy and have many dependents. I promise I will not come back again.” I pitied him and let him go. In the morning Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) asked me, “What did your prisoner do.” I replied, “O Allah’s Apostle! He complained of his great need and of too many dependents, so I took pity on him and set him free.” Allah’s Apostle said, “Verily, he told you a lie and he will return.”
I waited for him attentively for the third time, and when he (came and) started stealing handfuls of the foodstuff, I caught hold of him and said, “I will surely take you to Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) as it is the third time you promise not to return, yet you break your promise and come.” He said, “(Forgive me and) I will teach you some words with which Allah will benefit you.” I asked, “What are they?” He replied, “Whenever you go to bed, recite “Ayat-al-Kursi” — ‘Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-l-Haiy- ul Qaiyum’ till you finish the whole verse. (If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no satan will come near you till morning. ” So, I released him.
In the morning, Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) asked, “What did your prisoner do yesterday?” I replied, “He claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allah will benefit me, so I let him go.” Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) asked, “What are they?” I replied, “He said to me, ‘Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi from the beginning to the end —- Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-lHaiy-ul- Qaiyum— -.’ He further said to me, ‘(If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you, and no satan will come near you till morning.’ (Abu Huraira or another sub-narrator) added that they (the companions) were very keen to do good deeds. The Prophet (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) said, “He really spoke the truth, although he is an absolute liar. Do you know whom you were talking to, these three nights, O Abu Huraira?” Abu Huraira said, “No.” He (sal-allahu-alleihi- wasallam) said, “It was Satan.”

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 52, Number 260]

Narrated Ikrima (Radi Allah Anhu): Ali (Radi Allah Anhu) burnt some people and this news reached Ibn ‘Abbas (Radi Allah Anhu), who said, “Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, ‘Don’t punish (anybody) with Allah’s Punishment.’ No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, ‘If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.’ “

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 54, Number 536]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): I heard Allah’s Messenger saying, “An ant bit a Prophet amongst the Prophets, and he ordered that the place of ants be burnt. So, Allah inspired to him, ‘It is because one ant bit you that you burnt a nation amongst the nations of that glorify Allah?’ “

Salat-ul-Istikhara

May 5, 2009 by Admin

[Sahih Bukhari : Volume 2, Book 21, Number 263]

Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (Radi Allah Anhu): The Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara (Istikhara means to ask Allah to guide one to the right sort of action concerning any job or a deed), in all matters as he taught us the Suras of the Quran. He said, “If anyone of you thinks of doing any job he should offer a two Rakat prayer other than the compulsory ones and say (after the prayer):

‘Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi’ilmika, Wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika, Wa as’alaka min fadlika al-’azlm Fa-innaka taqdiru Wala aqdiru, Wa ta’lamu Wala a’lamu, Wa anta ‘allamu l-ghuyub. Allahumma, in kunta ta’lam anna hadha-l-amra Khairun li fi dini wa ma’ashi wa’aqibati amri (or ‘ajili amri wa’ajilihi) Faqdirhu wa yas-sirhu li thumma barik li Fihi, Wa in kunta ta’lamu anna hadha-lamra shar-run li fi dini wa ma’ashi wa’aqibati amri (or fi’ajili amri wa ajilihi) Fasrifhu anni was-rifni anhu. Waqdir li al-khaira haithu kana Thumma ardini bihi.’

(O Allah! I ask guidance from Your knowledge, And Power from Your Might and I ask for Your great blessings. You are capable and I am not. You know and I do not and You know the unseen. O Allah! If You know that this job is good for my religion and my subsistence and in my Hereafter–(or said: If it is better for my present and later needs)–Then You ordain it for me and make it easy for me to get, And then bless me in it, and if You know that this job is harmful to me In my religion and subsistence and in the Hereafter–(or said: If it is worse for my present and later needs)–Then keep it away from me and let me be away from it. And ordain for me whatever is good for me, And make me satisfied with it).

The Prophet (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) added that then the person should name (mention) his need.”

Husband & Wife relationship in Islam

April 24, 2009 by Admin

The relationship between the husband and wife is a very tender, loving and pure relationship. They are in reality the “garb” of one another. Thus, it is the duty of each to be protective over the life, property and modesty of one another. It is necessary for them to realise and understand their mutual duties as a couple. They are two bodies joined by the soul. The Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated that if a husband was pleased and content with his wife when she passed away, then she will enter Paradise. The explanation of one Hadith is that if a husband passes the night displeased with his wife, she invokes upon herself the Curse of Allah and the Angels.

In another hadith, the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, “If I had commanded prostration for any other than Allah, I would have commanded the wife to make Sajdah to the husband.” However, since Sajdah is none but for Allah, a woman cannot prostrate to her husband but she should be obedient towards him. The husband is the provider and protector of his wife. He should thus fulfill her needs and keep her pleased. “The best from amongst you is he who is best to his wife.” (Hadith) If there is a conflict, the husband should not be hasty to give her Talaaq (Divorce), but should cool his temper, think carefully and take the opinion of elders before making any decisions as Talaaq is not something which is liked. The Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated: “From those actions that are Halaal, the most disliked is Talaaq.”
